The first honorees receiving this award are Bernice Ostrum of Big Timber, Montana and Russell Bueling of Sheldon, North Dakota. The Ostrum and Bueling families cooperated closely during the breeds early days of development. They persevered in the tedious pursuit of producing a breed of efficient beef cattle with the unique, eye-popping feature of a white belt. Along with other like-minded breeders, they realized the fruits of their labors when, in 1988, the breed had enough recorded individual animals to officially form a registry; namely the BueLingo Cattle Society. Making the Hall of Honor presentations was Dr. Russ Danielson from North Dakota State University. Dr. Danielson served as the first Secretary of the Society.
