Season’s Greetings from Kansas!
Summer has come and gone and fall seems more like winter. I hope you all had a bountiful harvest and have plenty of feed for the winter.
Hay was plentiful in Kansas this year, but the rainy weather created a real challenge when it came to curing it. Many producers are advertising Brome Certified Weed Free hay with 9-10% protein for $60.00 ton. That’s a big change from the $90.00 ton we were paying a short time ago.
Another benefit in this area this summer was an abundance of grass produced by the extra rain. The combination of cooler weather and extra grass has allowed most animals to come off pasture in better than average condition.
Looking forward, we have reserved 2 beef barns, a wash rack and the 4-H building at the Leavenworth County Fair Grounds for the 2010 BueLingo Beef Cattle Convention. We are planning on having a show and sale, so start selecting your animals now to allow plenty of time for halter breaking and show preparation. Mark your calendars for 24-25-26 June, 2010.
The winter director’s meeting is being planned for January 2010. The time and place is yet to be determined. Somewhere around Des Moines, Iowa seems like a good location. If you have an idea that you would like addressed, please contact me or one of the directors as soon as possible.
Congratulations to the Midwest BueLingo Cattle Association for conducting a memorable Fall Field Day and a successful BueLingo Feeder Steer Marketing Program. Both events are excellent examples of the synergistic effect of working together.
Happy BueLingo Holidays to all!
Sincerely,
Joe, President
