Secretary message, Fall 2010

We are in fall mode around here.  We have 2010 calf crop weaned and worked.  The flies hung around a long time (until 3 nights of below 30 degrees) Finally, was able to finish up booster shots, castrating and some dehorning.  We have also finished harvesting beans.  Sold them right out of the field—so are you watching the price JUMP UP now that we are done?  Corn harvest is slower.  We put in a different drying system this year.  We didn’t want a repeat of last fall, so we have to work out a lot of little bugs, yet.

I have new directories printed and working on herd lists to send out with them.  I’ve removed 20 names from the directory and website of members who have not renewed since 2008/2009, but have kept in the ones expired June 2010.  Hopefully, those of you who have not yet renewed for 2010/11 will still consider sending in your membership renewals.  We have lost 76 members over the past 2 years.  But, on the up side, we have gained 37 new members over the past 2 years. I have mailed two renewal reminders.

Memberships Paid to Date 2010-2011:  135     11 Lifetime members-99 Regular memberships of which 13 are new for 2010/2011-7 Associate memberships of which 2 are new for 2010/2011-18 Junior memberships of which 9 are new in 2010/2011.

The Board of Directors will be meeting in January 2011, so if you have any concerns or items that need to be addressed, please contact any board member or the office.  (Contact information inside front cover of the “BW”)

WEBSITE:  Have you had a chance to check out www.buelingo.com?  We’ve had a new look for several months now.  You should be able to easily access all information available.  We have finally reached the level where we can make quick edits and additions to the members list, etc.  I will still rely on the more experienced folks to add advertisements and articles.  If you have any suggestions or find problems on the site, just let me know.

The 205 is up and running and should come in handy for gathering 205 adjusted weights.  Just go to the measurements and insert your data where it’s asked for and you will have a calculated 205 adj. weight.  We are trying to gather as much information on our breed as possible.  A lot of non-BueLingo producers ask about our EPD’s and other vital information.  Our system is capable of calculating these figures and using them if our producers will provide the information when registering their cattle.   Danny Meyer has made up a worksheet to fill out this fall when weaning your calves.  He has collected data on calving for over 9 years, now let’s help him collect weaning data and compile it into useful information for the BueLingo breed.

Look for your herd list data coming soon and correct and update as needed.  This will give us a fairly current list of actual living registered BueLingo. For those of you who do not register cattle anymore, but are still on our BueLingo World mailing list, we would like to hear from you too.  It’s time to clean out your files.  If you have registrations of cattle sold out of the Society-sold to slaughter-or just plain gone (died) (disappeared), send in your original registration forms, so that I may update the records in the office as well.  Thanks for taking the time to send in your information.

Stay safe through the fall harvest and weaning.  Send in data collected to help complete our compiled data.

And we wish you a successful and Belted New Year!
